PAYG iPhone Won't Be Available Till Late 2008

Those looking to purchase a Pay as you go Apple iPhone will be disappointed to learn that the iConic phone won't be available in PAYG version until "much" later this year according to a statement displayed on O2's PAYG page.

O2's website had been struggling since this morning because eager existing iPhone users have been swamping the website to pre-order 3G iPhones with the handsets being sent to the customers this Friday.

They were also encouraged to grab their iPhones via text and email from 8am this morning, provided that they agree to sign up for a brand new 18-month contract (ed : they might as well sign for a decade!).

The 8GB version of the phone will be available for free for those on the GBP45 and GBP75 monthly tariffs while those on the GBP30 and GBP35 tariffs will have to fork out GBP99 for their iPhone.

The Telefonica-owned company has limited the iPhone orders to one per person and on a first come first served basis.
