Defend The Flag – A New Concept in Security

A new type of security training was introduced at FIRST 2008. Defend the Flag is a two day session analysing how well you can protect your systems. The sponsors of this two day session were Microsoft and one of their partners ISEC.

This is an interesting take on the world of security where most of the focus is on hackers and their attack methodologies.

In day one of Defend The Flag, you are given training on how to harden your system without the requirement for patches and updates.

On the second day, you then split up into teams and use a variety of methods learnt from the training to defend your systems from attack.  The people who have had the least compromises on their systems win!

Chris Clark from ISEC Partners gives us the lowdown.
