Biometrics is the science used to analyze physical human body characteristics like fingerprints, retina, voice etc. to authenticate a person.
It usually involves scanning of human features, measuring them or analyzing them and used for security purposes. A scanning machine or a reader scans the users features and converts these features into digital form and matches them to a stored image in a database. The software then identifies specific points called Match Points that are processed into a value comparable to the scanned biometric data. Biometric is thought to replace passwords for authentication as they cannot be easily broken and also the users do not face the problem of forgetting passwords.
